The heart chakra is the fourth chakra. Its element is air and is associated with love, free-spirit, joy, and forgiveness. The Heart chakra is all about connecting and relating. It's not only about love, but our ability to give and receive, and how open we are in relationships.

Though this chakra has a lot to do with our romantic and platonic relationships, it's also about how compassionate we are, and our ability to accept the beauty of our world and experiences, and all that is. An open heart chakra allows us to move forward in any situation, no matter how challenging it is, using discernment and compassion.

Do you feel loved? Do you have difficulties relating or connecting with others? Do you experience excessive jealousy? The heart chakra says, "I LOVE"

What are some signs that your heart chakra is blocked?

Being overly defensive. feeling closed or shut down (having a wall up), jealousy; fear of intimacy, co-dependency, relying on other’s approval and attention, trying to please at all cost, always putting oneself in the role of the savior or the rescuer; or on the contrary, falling into victimization, excessive isolation, antisocial, holding grudges, and not being able to forgive.

A blocked heart chakra can manifest as respiratory ailments or circulatory and heart-related issues.

How to heal your heart chakra --

Breathe. Focus on your breath. Have you ever experienced the feeling of tightness in your chest? And the moment you become present and realize the tension in your chest, a simple deep breath makes you feel much better? Yep. That's the power in breathwork when healing your heart chakra. It allows you to become present and breathe out the tension you feel within your body.

Focus on receiving if you are naturally a giver, and focus on giving if you’re more inclined to receive. Reflect on old wounds from family relationships and come to terms with them compassionately; practice forgiveness deep within your heart. If you do have unforgiveness in your heart towards a parent, I want to encourage you that you are not on this journey to forgiveness on your own. It has really helped me by seeing the parent as human, as well as seeing them as wounded themselves. It doesn't make their actions valid or justifiable, but it does allow me to be more compassionate towards them (and, it further enforces the work I continue to do on myself, as I plan to heal the generational curse of the wounded parent before I have children of my own.) With forgiveness, always remember that forgiveness doesn't necessarily mean healing and moving forward, sometimes it means healing and letting go.

Also, the power of gratitude is hugeeeee when it comes to opening your heart chakra. Taking a moment to become grateful for your surroundings, your breath, your limbs, and whatever you can lay your eyes on allows you to begin to appreciate the beauty of life.

The affirmation we created for this chakra is, "I give and receive love effortlessly and unconditionally. My heart space is open."

If it's difficult for you to validate yourself
If you constantly need validation from others.
If you don't feel as if you have healthy and nurturing relationships.
If it's difficult for you to receive love.
If you can never fully trust someone's actions, as you ultimately expect to be let down anyway.
If you find it hard to forgive yourself and others.
If it's hard for you to be compassionate and empathize with others, or even yourself.
If you constantly shut down instead of expressing your feelings.
If it's hard for you to express love for yourself.

If any of the above resonates with you, please know that you are not alone. You are not broken, you are whole. You are complete. By working on opening this chakra, you are simply nurturing and caring for yourself to operate as your best self and make your life more delicious, sweet, and enjoyable -- you deserve that.

Here's a gentle reminder -- the healing never stops, but it does get easier as you become more aware and take control of your body and emotions.
