Healing Your Root Chakra

Chakras refer to energy points in your body. You have tons of energy points, but there are seven main chakras. These seven main chakras should stay “open” and aligned, as they correspond to nerves, major organs, and areas of our energetic body that affect our emotional and physical well-being.

So, we have seven main chakras = seven main energy centers = seven ways to emotionally and physically check-in with your well-being.

When our chakras are blocked, it can manifest in two ways. Either the chakra is underactive, or overactive. Think of an underactive chakra as the energy is not being used to allow you to operate as your best self, and think of an overactive chakra as the energy is being overused and shows up in an unhealthy way.

The goal is to balance each chakra.

Here's a cute image to show you where each chakra is.

So the chakras are numbered starting from the bottom, or the root.
Let's talk about our first chakra -- the Root Chakra.

Ready?
*wait, first, let's take a collective deep breath together*

...okay, now, Ready?

The root chakra is the first chakra. Its energy is based on the earth element. It’s associated with the feeling of safety and grounding. It’s at the base of the spine and lays the foundation for expansion in your life. Starting with the root chakra is a great start for beginners as it is the root for all of your energy centers.

Do you feel secure, do you feel safe, do you feel stable? Not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and financially. Are you secure in who you are? The root chakra says, "I AM"

What blocks your root chakra?

Childhood trauma, poor mother-child relationship, impatience, financial difficulties, poverty, physical abuse, physical neglect, fear of change, and selfishness just to name a few.

What are some signs that your root chakra is blocked?

Trouble saving money, anxiety, chronic health problems, lack of healthy boundaries with others, the sensation of being out of space or out of touch with reality, the feeling of disconnection, eating disorders or loss of appetite, lack of energy, generalized fear, materialism/greed, obsession with money, chronic fatigue, identity crisis, linking one’s sense of well-being to external factors.

Often, long-term feelings of vulnerability, paranoia, aggression, quick-tempered, insecurity, inability to relax, and anxiety are connected to an imbalance in this chakra. If you’ve always struggled to achieve your goals, or even lacked the confidence to set them, healing your root chakra can make a big change in your life.

How to heal your root chakra --

Start with physical exercises (choose a sport or activity that you like). Walk-in nature, spend as much time outdoors as you can. Practice grounding or walking barefoot to strengthen your connection with the earth and nature. Gardening will give you the chance to be in touch with the earth. Examine the relationship with your mother; talk to her about it. If you cannot, discuss the problem with a therapist, or write it out in a journal. Decorate your house, clean it, and put things in order. Try to pay all your bills on time. Get to know your neighbors better or make peace with them. Make peace with your family. Make/buy refreshing aromatherapy products with a pleasant scent such as scented candles (especially cedarwood aromas, myrrh, patchouli).

The affirmation we created for this chakra is, "I am safe, protected, and secure. Abundance is my birthright."

If you're constantly worrying, or anxious.
If you're controlled by your fears.
If you have moments of insecurity.
If you have a negative perspective on life.
If you have an unhealthy relationship with money.
If you have a co-dependent attachment style.
If you feel lonely or abandoned.
If you're restless.
If you often lose your focus.
If you don't feel supported.

If any of the above resonates with you, please know that you are not alone. You are not broken, you are whole. You are complete. By working on opening this chakra, you are simply nurturing and caring for yourself to operate as your best self and make your life more delicious, sweet, and enjoyable -- you deserve that.

Here's a gentle reminder -- the healing never stops, but it does get easier as you become more aware and take control of your body and emotions.
